Moving Hollywood Forward

Meet Mayor Josh Levy

As many longtime Hollywood residents know, Josh grew up in Hollywood.

As a lifelong resident of Hollywood, Josh was educated in our neighborhood schools and graduated from Hollywood Hills High School in 1992 (go Spartans – and Mustangs and Bulldogs too 🙂). Josh is a graduate of the University of Florida, and earned a law degree, with honors, at Nova Southeastern University in 2000.

Josh has always had a great passion for our city. He began volunteering in our city over twenty-five years ago, when, during law school, he volunteered as a law clerk at our City Attorney’s Office. He then led his neighborhood civic association and volunteered on city boards for over ten years. During that time, as Josh began to work as a business attorney and helped to grow his family’s business, he was able to buy a house by Taft Street, a few blocks from where he grew up, where he and his wife, Jackie, also a Hollywood native, continue to live today, raising their two children (and their pets 🙂).

Mayor Levy is a graduate of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leadership Hollywood program, the Hollywood Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy, and is a recipient of the City of Hollywood’s Great Neighborhoods Challenge Community Spirit Award.

Today, while he serving as our mayor, Josh also fulfills a number of county-wide appointments, serving as a member of the Broward County Planning Council, the Broward County Tourist Development Council, as Chair of the CareerSource Broward’s Council of Elected Officials, and as the Broward Large City Mayor on the Executive Committee of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Broward County’s economic development body. In 2020, he was selected to be chair of the Broward League Of Cities Cares Act task force, where he led the cities in the county sharing with all cities a $100M share of its federal COVID-19 funding. Hollywood benefited from that funding with over $8 million in federal funds, which helped us get through the pandemic period without significant impact to the city budget.

Mayor Levy has been recognized as “Broward Community Leader of the Year” by the Broward realtors and received the “Outstanding Transportation Partner Award” from the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Mayor Levy enjoys working together with his colleagues on the Hollywood City Commission as they endeavor to make the City of Hollywood “South Florida’s TOP city to live, learn, work, invest, and play.”

With so many improvements underway in Hollywood right now, these are exciting times for our city. Hollywood will be entering its centennial year with a better quality of life for our residents, with renewed parks and public safety facilities, new housing for every level of affordability, neighborhood improvement programs, renewed roadways, more trees, better achieving schools, and new modes of transportation.

And that’s why Mayor Levy is running for re-election, to ensure that Hollywood continues to move forward as a financially healthier city, with governance that continues to lead us toward a future that is physically safer, environmentally greener and more resilient, operationally better, economically stronger, visually more attractive, and historically prouder too.

Mayor Levy is grateful to the entire city for entrusting him with the privilege of serving as Hollywood’s chief elected official.
